Founder & CEO, The Bookkeeper UAE
Mahdi Kilani
Mahdi brings over 42 years of experience in Retail Banking, SME Banking, Microfinance, project finance, and strategy consulting, gained across diverse markets, particularly in the GCC, Middle East, and North Africa. He is known for his collaborative and strategic leadership style, with a strong passion for driving performance in highly competitive business environments. Throughout his career, he has built a proven track record as a change leader, successfully establishing and developing new business units from the ground up.
In his most recent role at Abu Dhabi Islamic Bank, Mahdi oversaw one of the bank’s key divisions—Business Banking—focusing on the Small and Medium Enterprises segment. Under his leadership, the business achieved significant recognition, receiving multiple prestigious awards including Best SME Exchange Service, Best SME Internet Banking Service, and the Mohammed Bin Rashid Award for Young Leaders.
Prior to that, he served at Commercial Bank International, where he established the Retail Banking Group. He also previously worked with Islamic International Arab Bank, where he led the development of the Retail Banking business and introduced Shari’a-compliant retail banking products.
With his extensive regional experience, Mahdi has also acted as an advisor and subject matter expert for several financial institutions across the Middle East, GCC, and North Africa, supporting them in strategy development, senior leadership coaching, and organizational training.
Building on this strong foundation in banking and financial leadership, Mahdi is now the CEO of The Bookkeeper UAE, where he applies his expertise to help small and medium-sized businesses gain clarity, structure, and control over their finances. Through The Bookkeeper UAE, he continues his mission of supporting business growth by delivering reliable, modern accounting solutions tailored to the needs of entrepreneurs and SMEs across the UAE.
Mahdi holds a Bachelor of Science (B.Sc.) in Civil Engineering from Middlesex University (UK) and an MBA from Cass Business School, City, University of London.

Throughout his career, he has successfully led finance teams, managed diverse client portfolios, and supported businesses across various industries in achieving financial accuracy, regulatory compliance, and sustainable growth. His expertise in IFRS-compliant financial reporting, audit coordination, tax planning, and business advisory enables organizations to make informed financial decisions while navigating the evolving regulatory landscape.

Aurora Lizarondo is a Senior Accountant with over 10 years of professional experience in Dubai, UAE. She specializes in accounting, financial reporting, VAT and Corporate Tax compliance, payroll administration, audit coordination, and financial management. Throughout her career, she has worked with businesses across a diverse range of industries, including insurance brokerage, e-commerce, investment and holding companies, real estate, rent-a-car operations, training and professional development services, trading businesses, beauty salons, derma clinics, fitness centers and gyms, hospitality, technology, and other professional service sectors.
Aurora has extensive experience in managing bookkeeping functions, preparing financial statements, overseeing VAT and Corporate Tax compliance requirements, coordinating external audits, and implementing efficient accounting processes. Her expertise includes account reconciliations, cash flow management, budgeting, payroll administration, financial reporting, and regulatory compliance.
